Warmfloor'schoice of Timber-Joists, Pipe-in-Polystyrene
Modules (TJPIPM) system is a range of pre-assembled
modules which make it easy to install UFH in a
suspended timber floor which has joists set at
600mm centres. They are equally suitable for use
with timber planks or a panelled floor deck.
Each TJPIPM module is manufactured from rigid
polystyrene which is 50mm thick and 550mm wide.
A serpentine pipe channel is machined into the
top surface, the whole surface is then covered
with thick, soft-temper aluminium foil. We press
a length of heating pipe into the foiled pipe
channel and then fit a thinner aluminium foil
layer across the whole top surface of the module.
The aluminium foil layers wrap around the pipe and act as
a heat diffuser, to conduct heat away from
the pipe and spread it evenly across the
underside of the floor deck.
Modules are available in three lengths - 2400,
1800 and 1200,, - and these are used in combination
to install modules along the length of each joist
space. Each module is supported on L-section plastic
brackets or battens and interconnected in series
along the joist space using any of the modern
push-together plastic fittings.
Individual groups of modules can then be linked
in parallel in order to achieve very even floor
temperatures, by bringing a common Flow pipe across
one end of the joist spaces and using a common
Reverse Return to gather together the Returns.
Alternatively, smaller groups of modules
can be daisy-changed together in series.
The use of a soft-temper aluminium foil
diffuser eliminates the creaking sounds
which can occur during warm up if you
use rigid aluminium diffuser plates.
With modules installed, the floor deck can be fitted in the usual way. This can be:

On joisted Ground floors, where there is a need to install thermal insulation across the whole of the floor, plain polystyrene is used to complete the floor insulation.

TJPIPM modules create a high-output system which
avoids the dangers of having heated air spaces
below the floor deck and which does not rely on
having heating pipe fixed to the underside of
the floor deck.
